It was with interest that I recently saw an article in the Daily Mail discussing this topic – should I pay my way on a date? This is a question our team of Personal Matching Consultants often get asked by our clients.

My belief is that you should first of all go with your “gut feeling”. As a woman it is always my belief that perhaps a gentleman should offer to buy the first drink, or treat a lady to a meal particularly on a first date.

For instance if a lady is dating a professional business man who owns a lovely home and car and enjoys a high standard of living, I would expect him to treat the lady to a nice dinner or theatre trip. After all, it could be an investment in his future and it is always good to make a great first impression. Most ladies would subsequently offer to pay half perhaps at the next meeting, or treat a gentleman to a home cooked dinner as a thank you.

However, if the couple concerned are younger and just making their way in life it may be a good idea to go half. I would recommend that the lady offer to pay half, and if the gent insists then let him!
