LOOKING FOR LOVE
by IntrosUK on 02nd December, 2010
In my experience as Director of a professional introduction agency for nearly 20 years, relationships that look good on paper don’t always work out. A client may make a laundry list of all the qualities that are important to them and have lots of tick boxes that they feel need to be completed.
Â
The reality, however, often falls flat. The person you actually fall for usually has some box that is not ticked at all, and/or a quality or life situation that drives you nuts on occasion but expands your life and your being in some crucial way.
If you are looking for love, you may not always feel in control. This is a normal part of love and relationships. Expecting a relationship to function predictably, like a machine, is a fast track to either remaining lonely and on your own. Expecting love to deliver the perfect person is like expecting every day to feel like Christmas.
Our team of Personal Matching Consultants advise clients that if they meet someone they like as a person and feel drawn to and like spending time with, go with that feeling. If they have an aspect of their lives that makes you question the compatibility between you don’t write them off too soon. We often receive feedback that someone is not quite right because they have dependant children, ageing parents, not quite enough money etc. We advise clients to give things time, to see if there is a way those apparent problems can either be resolved or add depth to your own life.
Recently one of our lady clients, Jody met Jack through Introductions UK Ltd. Jody had not got children and had never wanted to have children of her own. Jack has brought his son up single handed since his wife died some years ago. Initially Jody was put off with the thought of having to fight for Jack’s attention in the future. However, the reality of the situation was that Jody had a deep connection with Jack and really liked him.
With some encouragement from ourselves at Introductions UK, we persuaded Jody to meet Jack’s son and see how she felt. I am pleased to report that Jody has been introduced to a new motherly side of herself she did not know existed. Jack’s son and Jody hit it off right away and now she is helping to plan a family trip scheduled for next summer.
It is often the case that we fall in love with someone who stretches us in a different way and certainly does not tick all of our boxes. When looking for love, please try not to be too rigid in your preferences and expectations.
How do we know if we love someone? It is not always about heart racing and knees knocking but about calm, mutual support and a depth of feeling that makes you want to be with that person more and more.
