ADVICE FOR A FRIEND

by IntrosUK on 11th October, 2010

By Joanna, Director, Introductions UK Ltd

John Gray wrote, “To offer a man unsolicited advice is to presume that he doesn’t know what to do, or that he can’t do it on his own.” So, when we give advice that wasn’t asked for, we are implying our friends are too stupid to know what to do, or that we are superior and know more than they do.

Here at Introductions UK we have helped thousands of ladies and gentlemen over the last 20 years to find someone special. There have been many occasions when a prospective client has said to us “I would like to ask a friend for their advice as to whether I join as a member or not”.

If you happen to be that friend, then my advice to you would be:

  1. Remember what it feels like to be lonely. It may be that you are happily married or are in a relationship yourself and you might be fearful of losing your friend to someone new.
  2. Listen to what your friend tells you and try not to give YOUR advice, but help your friends tap into their own inner wisdom and rely on themselves. In other words, teach them how to fish, rather than feeding them a fish, for they need to develop permanent skills rather than get a temporary fix.
  3. Once you have helped them, do not remain attached to the outcome.

If they do decide to take the plunge and join an Introduction Agency then try and be interested in how it progresses, giving support and encouragement where you can. It will mean a lot to your friend.

Please try not to give the wrong advice. In our experience it is better to help your friends to arrive at their own conclusions.

Introductions UK, are probably the largest and most successful professional dating agency in the UK. We are happy to give no obligation advice and we have from time to time, advised that now is not the right time to join. For example; straight after a bereavement or a break up of a marriage. Many people need time to re-establish themselves as an individual before embarking on a new friendship.

If you would like to discuss your requirements and preferences for a partner, our team of Personal Dedicated Personal Matching Consultants are available to take your call.

If you want to ask a Friend, ask an expert first.
