As Director of Introductions UK,  a professional introduction agency, for 20 years I like to write about true life experiences on my blog. I would like to share with you my experience of a dinner dance last Saturday night.

I have often found over the years, that due to the business that I run, people have the misconception that I will provide entertaining conversation at these sort of functions. The name cards are prepared in advance and it is potluck who you end up sitting next to.

On this occasion, my husband and I were seated with 6 other people (3 couples) who were all friends. The gents were probably 30’s/40’s and worked and resided in a very affluent area of the country. The 3 lady wives looked very slim and elegant, but spoke little.

The gents were well informed and knew that I ran a professional and successful dating agency and asked me to spill the beans on funny stories. For those people who know me well, they know that I am very respectful of our members and staff and all those who are involved with the excellent work Introductions UK do. I am more than happy to talk with a passion for hours about Introductions UK and its unique service to genuinely interested people. What I am not prepared to do is to become the evening’s entertainment.

Once the 3 gents concerned realised I was not going to spill any amusing stories they went on to tell me what the best chat up lines are nowadays and how easy it is to pull an unsuspecting target (lady) for an evening.

Apparently any lady would fall at your feet, if the following chat up lines were used:

1. “What kind of biscuit do you eat?”

- This is so different that they end up crumbs in your hands

2. “Wow you look fabulous tonight – no strings – I just had to tell you that?” And follow this by a huge WINK

So ladies if you are out for an evening, and a gent approaches you clutching a custard cream or hob nob, with crumbs down his suit, whilst telling you how lovely you look, with a constant twitch in his eye – beware – they may not be after marriage! Stay Clear!

Infact just carry a packet of hobs as the nobs may well already be there!
